Decluttering - My Dressing Table

My dressing table gets messy really quick, since it doubles as a desk I do a lot of work there as well as my makeup, so whenever it starts to get cluttered and messy I feel a little stressed. The current stat of it isn't too bad, there is clutter but it's been way worse than this before, but I don't want to feel stressed whenever I sit down at my dressing table to do my makeup, so I want to declutter the mess and make it look presentable. It always just gathers random crap and I just want it to be clean and neat for as long as possible, so today I'm going to declutter the top part o my dressing table so I can stop feeling stressed out whenever I look at it. I recently wrote a blog post where I decluttered some of my beauty products, so if you're interested in reading that too, click here to give it a read.

Starting on the left side of my dressing table, this is where I keep all my perfumes and fragrances, and my jewellery holder and a few other bits of jewellery. I currently have an old tissue box, some hair care products, a glue stick, some Starburst gum and a bunch of other crap gathering up this side of the dressing table, and none if it it supposed to be there. Once I've finished moving the unwanted items back to their proper places, I realise that a lot of the clutter is coming from the amount of perfumes I have on display at the moment, and moving a few would definitely help clear up some space. I put a few fragrances away, including a couple of mini Zoella fragrances, some Primark fragrances and my Avril Lavigne Wild Rose fragrance, as well as chucking out some old Charlie body sprays that I never use anymore. After I cleared these away and repositioned all the remaining perfumes, it had made a huge difference to the amount of space. I usually keep a wooden trinket box in front of my fragrances, where I chuck small things that I don;t want to lose, but I decided to leave it off because it instantly made it look cluttered. To finish decluttering this side, I organize my Zoella Cactus jewellery holder and the small trinket dish next to it, where I keep my most worn rings and other jewellery, which also gets messed up quickly due to me never putting my jewellery back neatly.

The middle of my dressing table should be empty and clear so I have space to lay out my makeup products when I'm getting ready, but instead I have my laptop and a pile of pens and papers from when I was working on my dissertation the night before. To start the decluttering this section, I moved my laptop and other work related things from the table, which instantly emptied a big chunk in front of my mirror. To the sides of the mirror, I keep my most used moisturisers and deodorant for easy access, and a pot of makeup brushes and a pot of lip balms; the ledge of my mirror also has a few easy access things, like a small rose gold mirror, setting spray, cotton buds and bobby pins, along with a few decorative cactus items that brighten up the dressing table. I tidied up the makeup pots and my moisturisers on either side of the mirror which didn't make it look any less cluttered but at least now it's organized. I moved around the items on the ledge of the mirror and replaced the wooden cactus photo holder with a mini black board that I received for Christmas that I hadn't used yet. After quickly wiping down the mirrors, the middle part of my dressing table is now complete and it's starting to look good.

Over on the left I keep my lipsticks, hairbrush and some decorative bits that I like having on display, but it's currently crowded with nail polish, sunglasses and sweet wrappers. My nail varnish belongs in my cupboard so they're the first things I move from this side of the table, followed by the sweet package which goes in the bin. I display all of my lip products on a wooden white picket fence that is meant to display plants, but I love it for storing all of my lippies for easy access. I only reorganised this lipstick garden a couple of days ago so I thankfully didn't need to declutter them as they're already pretty neat. Not much decluttering needed to be done on this side, I only needed to move a few things back to their proper places and rearrange my few decorative pieces. I changed up what was written on my mini light box and just neatened up the stack of post-its that I keep for making notes and then it was pretty much done.

My dressing table is now totally clear of clutter and I have plenty of space to do my makeup without feeling overwhelmed by the mess. I hope you enjoyed this post, leave your thoughts in the comments below and I hope you come back soon.
